Privacy policy.

Studio Default™ (“we”, “us”) is a creative studio based in Johannesburg, South Africa, producing campaign, UGC and ad creative for ecommerce brands. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why, and what your rights are. It is written to meet South Africa’s POPIA and, for visitors in the EU/UK, the GDPR.

Enquiry details you choose to give us. When you start a project, you are taken to our enquiry form (hosted by Youform). There you may share your name, email, brand and a description of what you need. We use this only to respond to you and scope the work.

Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: pages visited, rough location (country/city), device and browser type, and how you arrived. This is only enabled if you accept analytics cookies in the banner; decline and Google Analytics is never loaded.

Site performance data. We use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights, which count page views and measure how quickly pages load, in aggregate. They set no cookies and do not follow you across other sites.

Your approximate location and the local weather. When a page loads, our host (Vercel) tells our server your approximate city, country and timezone, worked out from your internet connection. We use that for a moment to show you your own city and time at the top of the page, and to look up the weather there. We do not store it, link it to you, or build a profile from it. Your local time is worked out on your own device.

A greeting note on your device. The site keeps one small note in your browser's session storage so the greeting at the top of the page does not repeat the same line twice in a visit. It stays on your device and disappears when you close the tab.

We do not knowingly collect information from children, and we do not collect special-category personal information through this site.

A cookie is a small file a site stores on your device. We use only what is necessary to run the site, plus optional analytics cookies that load exclusively after you accept them. Full detail, including cookie names and how to control them, is on our Cookie Policy.

Showing your city, local time and weather: our legitimate interest in running a site that feels local to each visitor. Nothing about it is kept or linked to you.

Responding to your enquiry: to take steps at your request before entering an agreement, and our legitimate interest in running the studio.

Analytics: your consent, given through the cookie banner, which you can withdraw at any time.

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that make the site work: Youform (enquiry form), Google Analytics (site analytics, if accepted), Open-Meteo (weather, see below), and our host and performance-analytics provider, Vercel. Each processes data on our behalf and some may store it outside South Africa; where that happens we rely on their standard safeguards for cross-border transfers.

The weather lookup. To show the weather, our server asks Open-Meteo for the conditions at a city-level location rounded to one decimal place. Your IP address and device details are not passed on, so Open-Meteo never sees you, only a request from our server.

Your approximate location is used within the request that shows your city, time and weather. We do not keep it.

Enquiry emails are kept for as long as needed to answer you and, if we work together, for the life of that relationship plus any period the law requires. Analytics data is retained for the period set in Google Analytics (14 months by default). You can ask us to delete your enquiry data at any time.

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it. For analytics, reopen the cookie banner and decline. You may also object to processing and, in the EU/UK, ask for a copy of your data in a portable form.
